Okay so this little chunk:

Will be coming to live with me for a few weeks starting this Saturday. Yes, I'm ridiculously excited

He is already raw fed, but I don't think he's been given much of a variety (from what his owner told me, he gets chicken quarters, some organ meat, and fish oil). He's 4 months now and 25lbs. :)shocked:) Yes, he's a bit fat LOL.

So my question: should he be eating 2-3% of his body weight at 4 months, or more? I know with pups you're supposed to feed more percentage wise when they're younger, just wasn't sure when that cut off. I want to get a bit of weight off of him as well. Is there anything special I should be doing since he is a pup and still growing? This is new territory for me!

Edit: Holy crap, that picture is huge! Sorry, FB has no resizing option.

He looks just like Sako! What a lovie little butter butt! :)

I gave Gunner 10% of his weight when he was smaller. He burned it off so quickly that he never got over weight.

Yeah he does look very similar to Sako.. should be cute getting pictures of them next to each other ;)

Apparently this boy is super lazy, so I don't think he's burning it off LOL. She told me she doesn't really weigh his food, and that he gets a chicken quarter daily.. which just sounds like so much to me for a pup his size!

You know, I just guesstimated Mateo's food when he was a young pup. I never actually weighed/measured until I was curious and put everything on a scale... (but that wasn't until he was 7/8 months.) His body condition was steady and good, so I just adjusted up a bit as he grew.

Not very helpful, here...

But I really wanted to say that huge baby chunkster is adorable. And who says that big pictures are not wanted here?! :)
No worries ;)

Oh I was just surprised at how big it was! I post my pictures from SmugMug and they have options you can choose for sizes.. FB does not haha.

Keeva, who is 4 months old as well, gets(and Rhett and Jazzy got at his/their age) 2-3% of her project adult weight. Little miss gets about 2.5%, but runs off nearly 100% it!!LOL

At his weight I would say go for the 2-3% of his P.A.W. (and don't forget, since he IS a fatty, to figure in treats as well!!Haha)

He's 25 lbs already  I would say you could feed 2-3% of his projected adult weight. Since I can't imagine he's expected to be much more than 40# max a chicken quarter a day seems like the right amount but once organ etc is added its probably too much.

And I want him :)

Yep I would start him at around 12.8oz and then go from there, at 3% he can have up to 19.2 oz....which my guess would be that is closer to what he is currently eating!!LOL

You feed 10% of his current body weight and adjust it as he grows until it is equal to what he would be getting as an adult (the 2-3%). That's how I read it, anyways. I THINK that's right. I didn't find that part out until after Buck was older so I just fed the 2-3% of his PAW.

What a chunky monkey! Hes adorable!

Based just on that picture, I'd say feed less than what the owner was feeding. He's much to roly poly imo

He is adorable but that weight will make working him difficult. I would definitely feed about 12 ounces and get some weight off and go from there. Lung is great for training treats that are very low fat. We used a lot of lung with my girl who we were trying to slim down and it worked great - she was happy getting a good amount to eat and yet it was a nice low fat meat. Very pretty pup. Have fun with him. Are you training for conformation or ?
