Well, I had been talking about this with my mother for a while but we never got the courage to ask our friend about it...Probably because she didn't even know we had the dogs on a raw diet and it just seemed weird to ask for meat. But yesterday we went to an awesome German beer festival here in town with her and my family and we started talking about my dogs on their raw diet. Well, our family friend started freaking out asking me why I hadn't told her about this sooner! Her husband hunts a lot, and as most hunters do, the organs are all thrown away from the animals. So she told me that she will have him save all the organs from their kills for us, the bones, and any extra old freezer burned meat. She also asked me if I'd like hogs. I said heck yes, I'd love hogs, because he goes hog hunting a lot. So we are going to work out a deal, what's going to happen is I'm probably going to end up training their wild Giant Airedale in exchange for some deer, hog, and duck meat when he hunts! I am SO EXCITED!

Me too...CoCo loves Venison. This year I plan on bringing back much more than just the meat. Here is one of the Bucks I got last year.

The cooler...

I plan on driving this year...I usually fly...but last year I brought back 450lbs of meat...and the airline was a bit upset with the weight of the 2 coolers I claimed as baggage. They gladly took my money for it though.

I'm almost positive I've got my husband convinced at taking a couple deer this year just for the dogs. They dont' need to be trophy white tail but even if he got a couple does that would be wonderful!! The venison alone, plus all the organs & fun rec bones!!

FL Cracker, where do you go to hunt? Nice buck, btw!

West Virginia... due East of Morgantown. I would rate the deer as "average" in size...with this fella on the bigger end of the spectrum. He dressed out at 190#, which is real good for where we hunt. Average is about 150#....it all eats the same.
Buddy of mine has a "bit" of property there. We hunt archery season...and we "usually" bag 5-8 deer that week depending on the weather....which I pray is good every year...but we have had bad weeks before. Through management we have been able to get the bucks mature enough to get some horns on them. I hail from NW Ohio...corn country...and honestly the bucks are bigger up there...though this boy was the best in camp so far. Funny...I had the next biggest buck come 45 yards away from me the last night of our hunt...almost got a tug on him too...but he took after a doe...and he is waiting for me this year.... Ha. In the past we kept the heart...and the rest left for the coyote's....not this year...I'm bagging all of it.
Yep...tell the hubby...new rules...it's brown...it's down.

We are feeding deer and moose from the last two years (husband and my dad hunt) and this morning a friend's husband dropped off ten stewing hens, a bunch of assorted pork from a cow they bought butchered last year and two rubbermaids full of venison! I love hunters too!

I have a 3 month old American Mastiff who is doing very well on his new raw diet (store bought). As an avid hunter I am looking for advise on feeding him some wild game. Mostly venison, duck and goose. Has anyone had success with similar diets? How is the meet prepared? Can the smaller poultry bones be harmful? Any good websites I should visit to learn more?
Thanks.

Northwoods, that picture belongs in a magazine.

Awww, I HATE those pictures! I have a few too, though. I hunt, but I always end up petting them when I go up to them afterwards... Sad, I know... I love deer, not just to eat, but as an animal too.

On the flip side, I wouldn't give up hunting for anything! Haven't gotten the opportunity to go in the past couple of years. Getting married is expensive! Haha. Hopefully we will get to go this year. Definitely won't be leaving anything behind this time either! We would leave the innards for the animals as well.

I'm going to make my Inlaws hunt for me this year. My husband will go with them always does but he hates to kill things and they don't mind. I told my father inlaw the other day and he just laughed, I hope he knows I'm not kidding.
