What do you think is the best quality dog food that is also reasonably priced?

#4 ·
depends on the quality of food you want to feed your dog and what's available in pet stores around your area.

most grocery store dog foods are 1 star rating out of 6 stars

Kirkland and neutro brand is 3/6 stars

A lot of people in my area like Wellness brand which is 5/6 stars. I paid about $20 for a 6 lb bag.

for more information check this website because it talks about everything you need to know about dog food.

I have been feeding my now 11 week old Border Collie/Chow Chow mix puppy Beneful Healthy Growth. I thought this was good for her! Im so shocked by all the bad reviews it has gotten… she seems to enjoy it. And her stools are hard and of good size. Her coat is nice and glossy. And she is very energetic.
I also feed her whole vegatables on the side and left over meats from the meals my boyfriend and i dont finish.
I bathe her 2 times a week.
And we exercise daily.
This may be why she seems like a healthy puppy. The Vet says she's fine, healthy and happy as could be. But I dont want this food to really be affecting her in ways that arent obvious. I dont mind forking out a pretty penny to make sure she gets the best. Health is vital to life.
Ive been feeding it to her sense i got her… its been about 6 weeks.
I tried feeding her other dog food, but she wouldnt touch the stuff.
I dont remember what the name of the other brand was.
Im very concerned. Im doing more research, I want my baby to be healthy and live her life long and happy. I know starting her out NOW on a healthy diet will really help future-tense-wise.
Any advice on better dog food?
My vet actually RECOMMENDED this food. Which is why i was at first skeptical about all these bad reviews, but the more I read up on it, the more I realize its not good for Hannah (my puppy).
Please. all advice is welcome.
Thanks!

CAtherine, I dont want to write a lot because i'm not sure if you will read this... but there's a simple guide line to follow to get an atleast above-average dog food. Avoid corn, soy, by products, gluten, and low quality grains. Look for foods that you would eat. EVO is a great food. I feed my dogs blue wilderness (my large hound) and Small Breed Blue buffalo (my cavvy spaniel..but I plan on switching him to evo or taste of the wild) Many of these foods promote longer lives and healthier ones. Young dogs are very resistant but the difference will show with age.

Healthy Diet Tips for Your Dog

Coming up with a healthy diet plan for your pet may not be as easy as you initially thought it would be. First, it can be truly challenging to choose which dog food product or supplement you will get, given the variety of brands that you are most likely to find in a grocery aisle. Second, you may not know what it is your pet truly needs for him to have a nutritionally balanced diet plan. After all, these essential nutrients are what your pet needs to live longer.

Before attempting to buy even just one bag of dog food from the nearest grocery store, it is wise to speak with your veterinarian first. You will surely be able to learn much from him especially when it comes to taking care of your pet’s health. Moreover, his recommendations will help make creating a diet plan for your dog so much easier. Surely, your veterinarian will recommend a reputable dog food or food supplement brand that boasts of extensive animal nutrition research to back up its products.

It is also advisable to consider the age of your dog when choosing what dog food to buy. Some dog foods have special ingredients that make them more suitable for senior or aging dogs. There are also others that are more appropriate for puppies than for grown dogs. The size of your dog and its breed should also be considered as the effects of certain dog foods may vary depending on these factors.

In addition, it would also be wise to look at the kind of activities that your dog regularly engages in. For example, when your dog is always active, you might want to choose dog food that would give it the necessary sustenance for its activities. Lastly, your dog’s current weight should also be considered to ensure that whatever dog food you will choose will help it attain its desired weight. If your dog happens to be overweight, you may have to be careful about serving only portion sizes of food. This way, your pet will not become obese. Obesity, as it is, will be detrimental for your pet in the long run.

Nonetheless, avoid giving your pet table scraps as these do not constitute a healthy meal for your pet. Rather, choose high-quality dog food or supplement that has everything that your pet might need to make him healthier. By doing these, you will certainly lengthen your pet’s life.

Hey Michelle, you gotta love it. I left a link in the forums about flaxseed meal being good for nursing mothers, and the guy argues that it isn't good enough for dogs, LOL. How do you like that? The same guy says this is a advertisement, see link below. Then all his no nothing buddies thank him, LOL. It really says you SHOULD NEVER BELIEVE anyone if they can't leave a link. Even then, someone will argue the FACT's!!! He also says and dig this, that faxseed contains "NO" Omegas. Whats really sad is people believe this guy and thank him. Unbelievable!!!

Jess, flaxseed does not benefit dogs. Flax does contain omega 3's, but they are in alpha-linolenic/ALA form (plant form). A dog needs to convert ALA to EPA and DHA (animal omega 3's) to be able to utilize it. A dog cannot make this conversion.

Yes, flax is good for pregnant mothers. But, in this case, you are humanizing. Pregnant mothers are humans and omnivores. Dogs are not omnivores. They are carnivores.

You can't be more wrong. 1st off it is flaxseed meal and faxseed meal, crushed faxsseed and flaxseed oil is extremely easy for a dog to digest and I can't believe you think other wise. You need to do some research on this before making big bold FALSE staements. The seeds are always crushed in some manor before going into dog food. And using horse's as a examble is just down right stupid!!!! You have no idea what I do for living and if you did you would really feel silly making statements like this. GO ask your vet and tell me what he says......

Michelle, I did a little running around asking questions about flaxseed at all the good pet stores I go to. Guess what they "all" said was the issue about why some people don't like it??? Because some people think it contains to much Omega's, LOL.... But the people here think that it contains zero, LOL. Then the the posters agree with the poster who is 100% wrong. LOL, you gotta love it. Opinions vs facts and here in these forums, opinions rule over facts.

Hey Jess,You know what they say about opinions being like a--holes.....everybody's got one!!!! LOL. I like to stick with the facts too.I would like to know where people come up with the sh-t that they say?? I guess Salmon oil is bad too huh? Maybe next vitamins, minerals, and meat will be bad too_Oh wait....some of the vegetarians out there already think that meat is bad for dogs. How DUMB can people be?? REALLY STUPID.

Natura is a good brand of dog food. I highly recommend evo and California Natural Grain Free, the diet is made to rotate which ensures the most optimal nutrition ( in most dogs as well as cats). Being composed of 33% of the same ingredients allows the body to handle changing protein sources simpler.
