Ground beef question

So, I have some ground beef that I'm using for my dinner tonight. I only need 1lb, but the package is 1.21 lbs.

It's completely thawed out. Could I separate that roughly .21lbs and re-freeze it to use at a later date for Murph?

I've always heard once you thaw something out, you have to use it, can't re-freeze it. Didn't know if this is true or not though.

Do it- I think that is mainly for the texture with regard to human consumption and the risk of germs growing via time exposed to room temps, but for dog use there is no prob - I do it when necessary. Like I get whole chickens for Ruby that are previously frozen, cut them up in portions, and refreeze.

I would. I don't feed much ground meat but in that case I would. That won't hurt anything.

freeze and refreeze as much as you like, we do it on a small scale, but i know others on the forum have to thaw entire 500lb orders and refreeze it portioned out.

I thaw and re-freeze pretty often. Usually I have chunks of something I have to thaw in order to seperate and re-freeze. Or sometimes I put something in the fridge to thaw, but decide I won't be feeding it and throw it back in the freezer.

Like David said, a lot of us have to thaw and re-freeze. This last order I got was about 200 lbs of frozen meat, that I had to wait to thaw out for a day, then I had to package and re-freeze. It is this way with all my orders. Now, I have meat defrosting from that order for the puppies breakfast...So this will be the second time it has thawed with me...I'm sure it has been thawed and re-frozen before getting to me as well.

So, in short, just like the advice above...Yes, you can thaw and re-freeze as much as you want.

I almost always have to defrost then refreeze chicken meat 'cause I cut them into bite/flingable size pieces.
