Pork belly is the same stuff bacon is made from and yes, it is high in fat. But I don't understand why everyone is so afraid of feeding animal fat to their dogs. It's actually good for them, they are highly adapted to process it and utilize the calories and nutrients in it properly.

This is one of those "human nutrition logic" things that people tend to apply to dogs. It's hard to accept what seems counter intuitive to us after decades of having the "saturated fat is bad" mantra beat into our heads. The real truth is that animal fat isn't even bad for humans if you don't eat it with carbs. It's actually the polyunsaturated vegetable fats in our modern diets that is at the root of a lot of the massive health problems in our society. But I digress.

If you can get pork belly cheap, feed it as part of their meal. Your dogs will love it and their coats will be shiny and soft.

Fear not the fat, Grasshopper.

Yep JayJayisme is correct, I have fed raw bacon to Tobi, they burn fat like we burn sugar it seems, when he has a fatty meal, normally beef trim, or pork trim, he's off the walls almost like a sugar high a few hours later even if we've been wild and crazy already that day, they utilize it very well!!

I prefer to feed beef and lamb fat to pork fat as they are higher in omega 3 than pork. Feeding lots of pork and poultry fat seriously messes with the omega 3:6 ratio. I wouldn't buy the pork belly if it is mostly fat. I do offer up all the fat on pork shoulder and leg though as they are much meatier.
