If dogs are carnivores, then why do they eat grass?

This is the question I dread when talking about the raw diet to a skeptic because I don't exactly know the answer.

Is it because they have an upset stomach? What about the dogs that eat grass all the time, do they always have an upset tummy? Do raw fed dogs eat grass less than kibble fed dogs? Do they do it because they actually crave vegetation or some sort of nutrient that they may be lacking?

Would love to hear your opinions and knowledge on this! Looking for some more answers to help with my conquest in the raw diet arguments.

My dogs tend to eat grass the most in the spring time when the new "baby" grass is popping up. So fresh!

We have to remember that dogs are opportunistic carnivores.....yes, they thrive on meat....but they will also eat other things if its there. I think our dogs just like to eat grass when its popping up in the spring because it tastes good. No other reason.

ETA: I don't think it really adds anything beneficial to their diet....it usually comes out the same way it goes in...

Opportunist scavengers, dog will eat practically anything that seems edible but a carnivorous diet is the most ideal for health. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
