Honey, brown rice, oatmeal

Hi all!
Sorry if this was already talked about in this section, since I didn't go through every post. I just remembered that my new holisitic vet told me to feed oatmeal and local honey as well as the brown rice. What is the rational for this? Especially, honey. It's just sugar (fructose), right? Also, what are the benefits of oatmeal and brown rice?

Thanks!!

For people at least the theory for eating local honey daily is that it helps with seasonal allergies. If you're allergic to flowering plants in the spring and the bees visit these flowers to ultimately make their honey with it's like getting small doses of your allergen so you become immune.
Hopefully that was explained correctly...
My niece is mentally retarded as well as autistic and she suffers horribly from springtime allergies. She is on anti-seizure meds daily and my sister gives her her pills in honey every day. She had never heard of honey being used to help with allergies but was telling me that Taylor's allergies this year were totally gone. Then she was at my house giving her her pills and I asked if she gets a couple of spoons of honey every day and she said yes. Even though I'd heard of it I'd never tried it myself but after seeing Taylor having no symptoms of allergies this year I thought I'd try it. Since I also have awful springtime allergies I've been taking a spoonful of honey every day for the last couple of months now so next spring I'll hopefully see a difference. Don't know how it will help with a dog but may be worth a try.

But there is something about the type of honey you are suppose to use. It was discussed in the raw4bullies group, Did you join that group after I gave the link to you in the PM?

We actually use honey from the farmers market that is >50 miles from our home, which normally yields the best results for allergens. We do it for ourselves because it seems i have allergies now that i moved to the east coast south, that i never had when i lived up in the pnw lol... I also know that local berries such as blueberries, and raspberries can help in that same process, It's helped enormously for my gf, and I... I truly never thought of it for a dog lol... i hope it works for poor sonya!! :becky:

I have heard of that for people and keep meaning to try it but I did hear that it has to be honey from local bee's. It's nice to hear that it actually worked for someone. i never thought to try it in the dogs but maybe it would help Rocky's feet and ears. He does have a sweet tooth so he probably wouldn't mind it!

Guess I have to go to the farmers market.
