grass eating in the early a.m.

I seen frequent mention on the forum about "hunger pukes" .... thankfully we haven't had any of those (really no problems to speak of, except I still about wet myself every time they crunch down on their boney meals). However, Kody does this thing where first thing in the morning, usually somewhere between 4:30 and 6:00, (sadly I usually wake up this early anyway), I open the door to let them out, and he makes a mad dash out and starts chowing down on some grass as if he hasn't eaten for days. To my knowledge, he's not vomited any back up, but his next poop will be loaded with grass. Is this frantic early morning grass eating his way of staving off the "pukes" or is that just silly thinking? Kacy has not done any such that I've witnessed, just Kody. They do both get a small snack at bedtime, just piece of chicken or turkey usually, about thumb size maybe. Like I say, neither has vomited (knock on wood) from the beginning, so I guess it's not big deal, just odd behavior that I'm wondering about.

Filling his tummy is kinda what I was thinking. They get fed immediately after coming back in, but I guess I could stumble to the kitchen and get them a tidbit before letting them out first. I'm not exactly freaked out, it's just something new he's been doing since starting raw and just wondering if I could/should be doing something differently. Thanks for the suggestion.

The sugar content in grass is highest in the early mornings and late evenings. Thats why we always cut hay for our horses during those times. It keeps the sweet flavor even after its baled, so most likely if I had to guess, the grass probably tastes good early. No nutritonal reason, just good taste. Like Natalie said, maybe a snack in the morning before going out may help.

I gave Kody a bite of chicken before letting him out first thing this morning (in addition to his usual bedtime snack last night). He ate a bit of grass but I don't think quite as much as he has been. BUT then he went back out after his breakfast and had a grass desert! Oh, well, guess he just likes grass. As long as he's not upchucking or otherwise seems to be sick, I'll just roll with it.

I've only very rarely seen Kacy eat grass, if/when he would have a bit of tummy upset from something new (not since feeding raw that I've noticed). Thanks all.
