Prices

I went to El Toro Meats the other day and asked about their venison and bison. $7 a lb! I've been searching for wholesale meats, and I did find a distributor, but they don't have these two meats. What prices per lb. do you guys pay if you feed venison or bison?

We just picked up 70 pounds of venison for $1.50 per pound. Wouldn't pay more for it either.

Bison about the same or less.

We don't feed these two meats that often, because it is hard to find it reasonably priced. I wouldn't even consider buying anything at $7 per pound.
I don't buy game meats. The only game meat I have gotten my hands on was from a hunter cleaning out the freezer.
The only things I have spent over a dollar per pound for is lamb, (lamb breast at food4less was $1.69) and goat ($1.59, same store)
I'll post on craigslist and see if anyone has some venison or bison they don't want. If that doesn't work out, I'll probably do without it. Or maybe like 2 lbs. once a month or something...

How much variety are you able to include without it?
I post asking for anything and everything people don't want, I haven't had much luck in vegas at all, but did get about 15lbs of frezer burned venison and about 10 lbs of freezer burned elk from one person in utah. He didn't even make me pay for it.
Another trick is to find someone who breeds meat rabbits to get rabbit cheaper.

Right now, he's on chicken, turkey, fish, pork, and will start with beef or lamb maybe next week. This is the start of the 4th week on raw, and I don't want to get ahead of myself. I just thought venison or bison would be good to give him as a monthly treat or something.

Oh it would definately be great to add in, the more variety the better!
I am comfortable with what kind of variety I have (about the same as you) so I only buy extas when it's cost effective, I wouldn't imagine spending seven bucks per pound! But, at the same time, if you can afford that, go for it! game meats are great (dare I say the best?) for the dogs!

haha! There's no way I can afford seven bucks a lb. on a daily basis . Hopefully I'll get a $10 coupon in the mail. I do get them, I've just always thrown them away because I never thought I was going to feed him raw...
