So I went down to visit Rachel today where she was working, and on her way in, she approached a guy who was trying to give away some black puppies. She asked him if they were vaccinated, and he goes "It's too much of a hassle, trying to get the paperwork to get them vaccinated and blah, blah, blah" just giving some BS reasons as to why he didn't vaccinate them. Then we're talking, and this lady walks in with this TINY, most ADORABLE, little pit bull pup. I approached her and asked her how old, and she goes "A month. I just got him from some guys that were selling them. They didn't seem to care too much about them."

OH MY GAWD! People and puppies! I swear, I'd like to strangle some of the people out there. Giving away puppies without vaccinations and acting as though there's a GOOD reason?! I mean, come on, man up and just say you had an accidental litter and didn't know what you were doing. You only look more like a dumb a$$ trying to say that you need to get papers in order to get them vaccinated! And you just like like a moron selling puppies that are less than even EIGHT weeks old, let alone SIX! People who don't know anything about dogs should not get dogs....it's those people who just let their dogs breed so they can sell the puppies at FOUR WEEKS OLD!

-.-

Good thing Rachel and I were there to tell that lady how to deal with a younger puppy that shouldn't have been weaned yet, and the lady seemed really interested in everything we had to say about training the poor thing. He was sooooo scaaaared, and she was, like, "Yeah, he's so nervous and shy." Well, at four-five weeks old, all puppies are going to be nervous and shy when taken away from their litter, ESPECIALLY that young.......I really wish that lady good luck, especially since it was a pit bull puppy, and without the necessary socialization with its litter mates between six and eight weeks old, it could turn into a disaster...

Ugh, that just makes me sick.
I see it on craigslist all the time though.
Just last week there was a litter of Boxer puppies for sale at 4 weeks old, and the ad said that they were ready to go and eating dry food.... as if that were the only part that mattered. It also said they needed to go ASAP because the guy was losing sleep at night and couldn't stand the barking anymore. The parents had AWFUL conformation as well, no health testing was done, no vaccines were given, and the puppies hadn' even seen the vet. He docked the tails himself, he said, but didn't even know what dew claws were when I asked about them.
ANd he wanted $700 for the males. $800 for females. It was a litter of 11. Surely he made a pretty penny and will surely do it again.

In the morons who were selling the puppies' defense, that lady's pit puppy looked closer to 6 weeks so I think they just didn't know what they were talking about. Ugh. She seemed very receptive to my advice but hopefully she can keep up with the overwhelming demands of such a wonderful breed's puppy.

I also saw a lady at Petsmart today who had a "6 week old" shih tzu puppy that didn't have teeth yet and honestly only looked to be 4 weeks old. She told me the pup was already on dry food, poor thing! Ugh people suck!

It is disgusting...working at Petsmart, I see it all the time. :frown:

One time there was a woman that came in holding a pit bull puppy that was 4 weeks old, covered in fleas. I got to talking to her and she said that she bought him in the Walmart parking lot down the street on a whim. They were asking for $250, but the woman told them that she only had 50 bucks. They readily took it. This woman didn't even have enough money to buy anything but food for the dog, not to mention she had a little boy with her who couldn't be any older than 2....and didn't realize that the dog (who's fleas were jumping all over me while she was holding it!!!) even had fleas.

Five minutes later a family came walking with a pup from the same litter, bought in the same manner. They said that these people had 35 other pit bull puppies that they were trying to sell...some with them, some at home.

I would honestly say that at least half of all the new puppies brought into the store aren't older than 6 weeks old. Makes me sad. :frown:

I really do believe that people should be required to take classes on owning animals (or having kids...) before they are allowed to, kinda like a drivers license but an "animal" license. Classes in healthcare, nutrition, ethics, etc on how one should care for an animal. I believe if something depends completely on you for everything that you should be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law to provide adequate living conditions.

It makes me sick to my stomach thinking of how so many depending animals there are that go without the necessities of life while their "family" sits by and watches them suffer. Most of which are just plain ignorant to the needs that these animals need. These stories are cases in point to what I am talking about.

People make me sick.

Rachel, actually, I think the pup really was younger than six weeks, perhaps, like, five weeks, because my friend's male pit bull pup was AT LEAST twice that size at eight weeks old when she got him, and he's a pretty small pit now at a year and a half old, I believe. At least the lady was really responsive to your help, she seemed really interested to hear the things I had to say when I talked to her.

And that poor Shih Tzu! I mean, I HATE little dogs, but I don't think that any animal deserves something like that. I mean, seriously? You don't take a kid from their parents at 10 years old and send them out into the world, do you?

Corgi, that makes me even more sick. He seriously docked their tails himself? I hope to GOODNESS that nobody bought a puppy from him for $700-800!!! You should have called the cops on him, because apparently, it's illegal for anyone to sell puppies in Nevada under the age of seven weeks. I think animal control could have pinned him for more than just trying to sell puppies too young when they came, like practicing surgery on dogs without a license? Is that legal? *mutters something about nutters who should be neutered*

And I agree with you, Danemama, people really should be REQUIRED to take parenting and animal classes in order to have kids or own an animal, otherwise be subject to extremely high fines with the penalty of death. haha. Yeah, right. Kidding. But something extreme, like a jail sentence...then again, people get jail sentences of a DAY for brutally beating animals...and sticking kittens in microwaves. -.- *read a horrible story once*

That is sad how easy it is for anyone and their brother to let a female get pregnant and well then my god have to get rid of these pups and the folks have no idea what they are doing BYB! so sad! I know this from experience as when I was young, our first dog 1/2 GS and 1/2 Husky was maybe that old 6 weeks if gee not younger and the man who gave us (yep gave) the puppy was like just take her I don't want her I want to get rid of these puppies and we being newly married and not knowing the proper age to receive puppies were of course just thrilled to death to get this tiny fit in my husbands size 11 gym shoe puppy! But That was a while gee a long time ago ( know what I need to know about this now!) and I can just picture him being the type of person to just have puppies giving them away! People never learn and this a sad situation because it just wont stop! Your going to have folk like this and puppy stores and puppy mills and just all the bad things that go around! Sad story! And the dog we had was our baby that just was very hard to live with chewed everything and was just taken way too soon from the mother! Hopefully these little pit bulls will not be so destructive and will get the proper help they need!:frown:
