I need some advice

I may have found a meat source not far from my house. Its a beef processing place, but I'm not sure how to approach them about it. I'm hoping to be able to get leftover meat that would otherwise be thrown out for cheap. How should I begin talking to them? Just flat out tell them what I'm looking for?

Do they have an office you could go to and talk to someone? I'm sure they do. I would first look for that. Do you have a phone number for them?
Yea, I have a number for them, and they have an office. Its a pretty good drive from the house but if they turn out to be a source it will be worth it. It's about a half hour or so away. Can I call, or should I just take my chances and drive there? I would hate to get all the way there and they say they can't help me.
They are more likely to say no over the phone, but if you go in person and explain exactly what you are doing they are more likely to understand and try to help out.

Alot of places it's against regulations to just let meat or scrapes go from a processing plant, (people might actually try to eat that food) so if you show up and try to explain, and ask how its possible to make it work.

I have a scrap story that has a little to do with what Leo said.

I was at the Albertson's meat counter a few months ago (before I discovered Ania's aversion to fish), and a gentleman bought some salmon and asked them to filet it. I asked them (Albertsons) what they were going to do with the leftovers. They said they would throw it away. I asked if I could have it instead and was told that they would have to CHARGE ME FOR IT!! Unbelieveable! Gettin' paid twice on the same fish.

So weather it's regulation or just plain coorporate greed, be prepared to be turned down with scrap-salvage.

On the flip side, I HAVE heard of some stores being cool about it. You just have to find the right one. I hope you already have.

Don't phone. Go in person. If they won't sell you scraps, be prepaired to buy some cases of stuff. You should be able to get it at a good price. I would prefer cases of stuff over scraps just a little cheaper.
Thanks ya'll! Thats what I'll do. I just go there and talk to them about it and maybe I will have some good luck.
Let me know how it goes!!! We have quite a few beef slaughtering companies around here, and if it works out for you I might try the same.
