Evangers has been around since 1935, family operated business, and never involved in a pet food recall. This is hands down the best food on the market. Anyone disagree?

Evangers Dog Food Review
Evanger dog food formulas are produced and marketed by Evangers Dog and Cat Food Company. The pet food company has been producing various lines of dog and cat food formulas and treats since it was founded in 1935 by Fred Evanger.
Each of these dog food formulas has been tailored to meet the AAFCO nutrient standards for all life’s stages.
There has been no Evanger dog food formula which has been subjected to recall by the FDA however the company’s attention has been called on adulteration and misbranding of its Lamb and Rice Dog Food formula and Grain-free Duck Pet Food.
The primary protein component of Evanger’s dog food formulas is chicken, pheasant, or whitefish. This gives dog owners better choices when it comes to selecting the best formula for their dogs.
Chicken, pheasant and whitefish are fresh meat-based protein sources. Being raw ingredients, about 80% of their composition is made up of water that can be lost during processing and leaving only a fraction of the original weight.
Pheasant meat is often a good choice for dogs which are hypersensitive to chicken.
In Evanger’s Chicken with Brown Rice Formula, the second ingredient is brown rice. It is unmilled or partly milled rice which is considered more nutritious than white rice. Brown rice still possesses the nutrient-rich outer covering of the grain. It is loaded with B-vitamins, magnesium and iron.
To boost the total protein content of Evanger’s dog food formulas, the fresh meat protein sources are paired with a meat meal like chicken meal, duck meal, salmon meal, or venison meal.
Meat meals are meat concentrates that contain more than 300% more protein than fresh meat sources.
Aside from being a rich protein source, salmon meal contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which serve an important role in protecting body cells against harmful free radicals.

Hey Bradley Morten, they make some of the best canned food on the market today. Their 100% duck, 100% phesant, 100% rabbet, 100% chicken along with Hunks of Beef, are some of the best you can buy. I feed a small amount of one of these every night to my dog as desert. He goes nuts over the duck.

In my rescue operation, I feed only Evangers canned food. The beef, chicken drummets, thighs and whole mackerel provide some bones (safe!) and there is much variety. Variety is very important for health since we don't know which foods may hurt which pets when in excess. The food is human grade. There is an organic line (except for vitamins etc).

Hunks of beef is awesome, the first can I ever opened I almost started to eat it myself. The smell was incredable. You are right in the fact they do not add any vitamins and minerals.

all I can say is how can I trust this company to put quality ingredients in my dogs food if they are so greedy to steal from the utilities. Do I really get pheasent or is it meat surprise?

Dawn, first off learn how to use your ""CAPS button"", who would take you seriously if you can't even hit the caps button??? I know how I feel. Secondly, great for you and your raw diet, ya hoo, speffy keen, neato jets. OK, we have heard enough. Not all people are going to feed raw for alot of reasons. And I for one would never in a million years feed my dog raw chicken never, ever, no way. Have you ever seen how they raise them ? It is very obvious if you have, that you need to make sure you cook it these days. And I would never feed eggs raw, now of course if I rasied my own I MIGHT. Now go to the forums you well fit in great there.
My french bulldog who is 5 mos. old came to us with Giardia and we are treating her with Flagyl. She is rather picky when it comes to food and seems to like to eat on her own time. She does not let the Evanger's Lamb and Rice sit long. She seems to love it. I have tried Wellness Puppy Formula and she did enjoy it but found it rather fatty and rich, contributing to her diarrhea and gas. Merrick Thanksgiving Day Dinner also is a success but the clean, well formulated and consistency driven texture makes this food a winner. I am a first time dog owner, so if I am doing something wrong, or, if I should try something else, please feel free to give me constructive advise.

You are doing great, by picking good foods without corn and other nastys. I had a German Shepherd who was just exactly like yours. I would put his food down, he would look at me, go back to sleep and would not touch it. But when I got home it was all gone, sure hope the kids weren't eating it, LOL, just kidding. Some dogs just don't do good on certain foods, no biggy, you found one that fits your dog. Just keep in mind that if your dog is a picky eater leave the food out all the time, just don't let her get fat. When she gets older try one of the duck,rabbit or pheasant formulas, my dog goes nuts for duck.

I have to be optimistic here and say that I think the competitors of Evangers have taken full advantage of this site to bash evangers. While Im not crazy about this whole mess, my dogs dont seem to care one bit about the news. At least I found something that my dogs go nuts over. Can another company say that their dog food looks like human food. Just putting in my to cents.
I am so thankful to Evangers. My 9 year old Caalier was diagnosed with MVD and needed to loose weight. The vet cardiologist suggested Evangers Game Meats. While my dog loves the food, we have been able to get het weight down with controlled portions and the vet is very pleased with her progress.

I do not think that any competitor is on here bashing evangers. I did a google search after being thrilled with Evangers whole mackerel. My cat loved it and I wanted to check out the company before buying more. the article about them stealing utilies is all over the internet on major news sources. Just google it. I also this on the fda website http://www.fda.gov/animalveterinary/newsevents/cvmupdates/ucm166265.htm there was another site that linked this to complaints but I could not find this on the fda website. Two times once in 09 and once in 08 they had run in's with the fda. Go to the FDA website and search for yourself.
I am confused now as to whether I want to feed this to my cat. While the news story of them stealing utilities has not been proven, I am not sure I want to gamble with my pets health. If they have done what they are accused of then I agree with the others who question what else they might have done. These accusations along with them twice in the last two years not following FDA protocol make me lean toward not using this food. I am contacting them and depending on how they respond I will decide from there what I will do

I can't tell you what to do, but they make a great product and like everything and everyone, things have gotten tough. Illegals have made the issues tougher and have impacted everyone, it's just most people haven't figured that out. They tried to keep their company afloat, do I agree with how they did it, heck no, but I still recommend their products.
